Dear La Côte Church family and friends,

What do you think of the parable of the unrighteous or dishonest steward in Luke 16? It’s a real head-scratcher, one of the most puzzling texts in the New Testament. A business
manager engages in questionable conduct that damages his boss financially, yet earns praise for doing so. Really?

But the narrator of this parable is Jesus, the one who came to proclaim the arrival of the Kingdom of God, where the first shall be last, and the last first – a kingdom in which the values of the world are turned upside down by a gracious God, who lovingly blesses those who don’t deserve such blessing.

In this and in other parables recorded in Luke, Jesus seems to be teaching his listeners to adopt a healthy and balanced attitude towards money and wealth. They need to prioritize
love for God and God’s people over greed, and refrain from oppressing others for selfish gain. Love of money may entangle and corrupt. Yet money can also be a vehicle for blessing others, thus forging and strengthening relationships of lasting value.

On Sunday afternoon at Gingins we will consider together the implications of this and
similar parables from Jesus’ repertoire, seeking encouragement and guidance for our lives
as individuals and as a community.

Betty Talbot

Stephen Ministry Training

Stephen Ministry is a confidential 1:1 caring ministry and a core element of the Pastoral Care strategy of La Côte.

Training begins on  Thursday 25th September at 7pm (on Zoom) for any who are interested to learn more about how to provide care, and have an interest in being Stephen Ministers.  Training is provided over 20 sessions, mostly online, and includes how to deal with feelings, the art of listening, assertiveness, boundaries, coping with grief, caring for those who are depressed and many other topics.

Stephen Ministry Suisse Romande needs new Stephen Ministers and so please do seriously consider whether this is something you would be interested to explore.  If you have any questions please talk to Jeremy Burrows.

Girls' Gathering

We are pleased to announce the start-up of a new discussion group for women at La Côte.  The aim is to meet once a month on a Tuesday evening, so that those who are not available for day-time events can also join in.  This will be an opportunity to share a simple pot-luck meal together, hear a speaker on a particular contemporary issue and discuss informally, as well as to spend time getting to know each other better.

At our first meeting, on Tuesday 30th September, Liza Zogib will speak on the topic of Nature and Spirituality.  We will gather in the parish rooms of the Nyon Protestant church at 19h30. Please let us know if you would like to join us. Sarah French and Heidi Hawkings

The Wonder of Creation

Please notify Louise if you would like to enter a creation by 28 September.
