Dear La Côte Church family and friends,

I feel like I’m dipping my feet into parallel streams bubbling through this month of Creation Time. One of the streams is entitled “Deep Waters” which is a course produced by Green Christians, inviting participants to face into the grief of loss and damage to Creation. Louise Burrows is ably creating a safe space to share the gamut of emotions which emerge as we do this grief work. As the course progresses, the aim is to move forward with renewed realism and courage to focus on ways of caring more effectively for God’s good earth, even in the face of today’s challenges.

The second stream is a brook that gurgles with hope. We started Creation Time by exploring Jesus’ transfiguration, as a symbol of God’s transforming presence for the whole of Creation. This coming Sunday (14 Sept) in our morning worship in Divonne we will be hearing about positive and far-reaching ways of caring and protecting the natural world and resources.

Sarah French, writes: “In the Christian Tradition, hope is not passive – it is active, practical and transformative. It moves us to sow seeds of change, to persist in love, and to join God in his vision for renewal and restoration of all creation. The power of the small should never be underestimated: even small acts of care, courage, and faith can ripple outward to nurture creation and restore the Earth.”

Everyone is welcome to join us – and we would love to hear real stories of where you see hope in the struggles and triumphs of caring for our fragile natural home.

My prayer for this season is that, by God’s grace, we will nurture courage and hope to pursue bold, lasting change in our care for creation.

God help us to change.
To change ourselves and to change our world.
To know the need for it. To deal with the pain of it.
To feel the joy of it.
To undertake the journey without understanding the destination.
The art of gentle revolution.
Amen.

Girls' Gathering

We are pleased to announce the start-up of a new discussion group for women at La Côte.  The aim is to meet once a month on a Tuesday evening, so that those who are not available for day-time events can also join in.  This will be an opportunity to share a simple pot-luck meal together, hear a speaker on a particular contemporary issue and discuss informally, as well as to spend time getting to know each other better.

At our first meeting, on Tuesday 30th September, Liza Zogib will speak on the topic of Nature and Spirituality.  We will gather in the parish rooms of the Nyon Protestant church at 19h30. Please let us know if you would like to join us. Sarah French and Heidi Hawkings
