Pulling together at the start of the new school year

Dear La Côte Church family and friends,

I hope that you have found ways to recharge your batteries and have some fun andrefreshment during these summer months. I am looking forward to our “Rentrée” All Age
service this coming Sunday 24 August in Divonne.

A new WHO report which came out at the end of June, entitled “Loneliness to SocialConnection” highlights that social isolation and loneliness are widespread. I was interestedto note that among the various strategies to tackle loneliness, there was no mention of faithcommunities. I have a strong sense that church communities can play an important role aswe create safe places to welcome people of diverse backgrounds to share in the journey offaith. This may be especially true for our chaplaincies in Europe, ready to welcome peoplewho have moved away from their families, networks and homelands.

At our Rentrée service we will celebrate being able to worship together and support oneanother at the start of the new school year. Whatever our age, most of us will remember thechurned-up emotions as we psyched ourselves up for new classrooms, teachers, classmatesand learning. In our service we will ask God to inspire us to pull together, young, old andsomewhere in the middle, to help each other walk together in faith. I hope you can join us!

This service is an opportunity to bless our children and youth at the start of their newterm. Please encourage them to come along and to bring a school bag with them,which we will incorporate in the blessing.

Sunday 31 August - Pot Luck Lunch

A chance to welcome newcomers and old timers!

On behalf of the La Cote Church Council, we would like to invite both newcomers and longstanding members to please join us for a Potluck Lunch in the Crassier hall after our Sunday morning service. Whether you’re brand new or have been visiting for a while, this is a great chance to meet friendly faces, share a meal, and feel at home. We look forward to getting to know you!

Refreshments & Decorations for our Pot Luck Lunch

To make this event a success, we would appreciate some help with catering and decoration 🧁🦋

We are looking for afternoon tea style food: bite sized sandwiches, vol-au-vonts, sausuage rolls, butterfly cakes, fruit kebabs or even Colin caterpillars!

To decorate please bring a jam jar/recycled flower stand/old piece of wood etc - full of your own garden flowers or hand made butterflies/chrysallis/caterpillar decorations!

Can anyone offer help making recycled paper butterfly streamers or decorations for the church?  Or help with washing up and cleaning afterwards?

Coming up to the rentrée we have new Children & Youth programmes starting for small children (Monthly, Messy, Godly play), primary school age children (Sunday Club) and teens (Alpha Course)

DEEP WATERS - A NEW 8 WEEK COURSE

REGISTER YOUR INTEREST

We are considering running an 8-week course, beginning in Creation Time, that provides a faith-based framework within which anxieties and fears about climate change and biodiversity loss can be expressed and explored together. It aims to help people navigate experiences of eco-anxiety and climate grief through a Christian lens of love, wisdom, and justice, and to lead people into a place of active hope.

WALKING TOGETHER IN FAITH
AN ONLINE LAY LEARNING COURSE

If you are hungry to learn about Christianity, do explore this online studycourse starting in early September. It is open to all lay members of the Church –whether you are simply looking to learn more about the Christian faith orexploring the possibility of formal lay ministry. Please submit your applicationby 8 September. If there are some of us in the area who sign up to do the course, we could arrange some in person gatherings.
