2025 Conference special edition

Dear SWICE community,

In today's special newsletter, we look back at three days of outstanding scientific dialogue on well-being in the energy transition - the SWICE annual conference, Monitoring Panel site visit, and a joint event with our colleagues of SWEET Lantern.

Have a great day,
The SWICE Management Team

The SWICE Conference

The third SWICE conference, which took place on the 4th of June 2025 in Winterthur, has concluded to a resounding success. The annual event gathers SWICE researchers for a full day of knowledge exchange and networking. This year, discussions benefitted enormously from the participation of cooperation partner representatives from SIG, the Federal Office for Spatial Development, the City of Winterthur, Groupe E and others.

In a full day of knowledge exchange that spanned the use of personas, microclimate modeling, mobility tracking and even an AI-powered sufficiency policy, we were able to witness once again the breadth and quality of SWICE research.

Monitoring Panel Site Visit

On the day before the conference, SWICE researchers from all Work Packages had the chance to present their research progress to the members of our Monitoring Panel. Each short presentation was followed by an invitation to discuss challenges and request advice. Such spaces for expert interaction are crucial to the success of our research program.

Many thanks to our Monitoring Panel for your insights and positive feedback: Luca Castiglioni, Ruth Mourik, Barbara Lenz, Martin Ménard, Sylvia Lorek and Martina De Sole.

Joint SWICE-Lantern events

Besides stemming from the same SWEET Call, the SWICE and Lantern consortia are linked in many ways. Both consortia conduct research in Living Labs located in Winterthur: WinLab and Living Lab Lokstadt. We seized on this opportunity to take our Monitoring Panel and a few lucky others on a tour of the neighbourhood, where our researchers were able to show the locations where their interventions are being deployed.

The tour was followed by an apéro - a great opportunity for SWICE and Lantern researchers to connect. Tristan Loloum and Anton Sentic also organised a detective game that revealed a web of suspicious connections between some of our researchers...

Many thanks for all who made this insightful tour and delightful evening possible!

Welcome to Philippe Thalmann

The SWICE consortium is delighted to welcome Prof. Philippe Thalmann as the new SWICE Coordinator. Philippe will take over the responsibility from Prof. Marilyne Andersen, who has been leading the consortium since its inception.

Luisa Pastore and the rest of the SWICE management team look forward to facilitating this transition and continuing the research efforts of the consortium. We would like to warmly thank Marilyne for her vision and leadership in the past three years.

We would also like to extend a warm welcome to Philippe to the leadership team!
