All things come from you and of your own do we give you

1 Chronicles 29.14

Dear La Côte Church friends and family,

Following our Gift Day and our Thanksgiving service, we are thinking with gratitude of the many people and groups involved in the life of our church.

Our Church Council are pleased to be able to present short profiles of members of our congregation over the coming days, which we hope you will enjoy and find inspiring. Thank you to all who have contributed!

Alice Debell -  involvement in the Morning Prayer group at la Côte Church.

1. How long have you been attending La Côte?
14 years

2. How long have you been in this group?
Since it began. I have emails going back to early 2020 about it so approx 5 years!

3. What does belonging to this group involve?
There is no obligation with this group. It is simply an opportunity to join together with other members of our La Côte church and friends from other churches around the world to use the liturgy and reflections created by the Church of England to start the day in prayer for our world and each other.

4. How much time does this group take each week/ month?
Morning prayer is offered, (and led by a lovely team of willing volunteers, camarades) weekdays at 7.30am CET for 30 minutes and Saturdays at 8.30am but not on Sundays. For me personally it can depend on the week as to how often I join. Often I join the call on my way to work and can listen in and pray with the group from my car. Some weeks I will attend several times, other times I will possibly only join once. It really is very free 'sans obligation!'.

5. What do you find fulfilling about this group?
I very much enjoy the structure of the Morning Prayer. It starts with an opening prayer and moment of stillness. I love the follow-through with a psalm every day and an Old and New Testament reading. I find the short reflections offered by the Church of England on one of the readings of the day very profound and inspiring. We are also always able to ask for prayer for ourselves or those we love or any situation of joy and trouble in confidence, trusting in God for answers. This group was a real lifeline during Covid years which has carried on for me.

6. Finally, could you share a resource that you find encouraging or helpful in your Christian life?
I have the Church of England daily prayer app on my phone. Although you can get the daily prayer for free online, the annual subscription for the offline version is small (£3.99). https://www.chpublishing.co.uk/products/268204/daily-prayer-app-full-offline-access-12-month-subscription. Additionally, because I love the reflections I have the app for the daily reflections. This means that I can read or reread the reflections any time I want. This is a little bit more (£15.99)  but well worth it https://www.chpublishing.co.uk/apps/reflections-for-daily-prayer. These are my two favourite Christian resources and on the app there are also afternoon and evening prayer liturgies to follow.  Alongside these apps I have my journal and a cup of coffee (although obviously not for the evening version!). Works a treat!
