Celebrating Trinity Sunday - Celebrating La Côte Church Community

Dear La Côte family and friends,

This coming Sunday 15 June is Trinity Sunday. Often when we hear the word God, we imagine a transcendent, majestic creator, a personal Jesus with whom we are in relationship, or the Holy Spirit who guides us into the grace of God.  These all reflect important aspects of God, but they are incomplete unless we see each of them in the wider relationship of God’s life as Trinity.

St. Bonaventure described the Trinitarian God as a “fountain fulness of love”.  For him, God as experienced through the Trinity is a framework for love itself – always and forever flowing and overflowing and filling all things toward completeness.  The constant sharing of love between Father, Son and Holy Spirit within the Triune God is available to us by grace through faith. By this we see that God’s presence is with us in everything we experience in life.

As children of God, created in the image of God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit, we are made to be in relationship with God, with each other and with all of God’s creation.  Archbishop Desmund Tutu described this relationality as ubuntu, a word from the Nguni language in Africa, meaning “I am what I am because of who we all are.”  Archbishop Tutu found this to be a wonderful metaphor both for the loving relationship within the Trinity and for the outflowing of that love to all humanity.

This idea of our humanity being tied up in each other is true only when we assume that love is not a limited good.  Love is found in loving.  Self is found in self-giving.  Unity is found in relationship.

Our La Côte church seeks to respond to this longing for the relational, self-giving, always merciful love of God.  Our church is a product and a participant in God’s mission of love in the world.  We come together to embody this love in community and share it with the world through the gospel and acts of loving service.

On Trinity Sunday, La Côte church’s Gift Day, at 16h00 at Crassier, we have an opportunity to celebrate the generous love of the Triune God that flows to us all. Do be part of that celebration!

Important Administrator Change

As some of you may already know, Anne de Tréverret is sadly leaving us at the end of June.  She set up the administrator role 4 years ago, and has been an invaluable addition to our community and helping everything run smoothly behind the scenes. I'm sure you will all join me in thanking her for her contribution to the church and wishing her all the best for her retirement in Brittany.  Anne will be joining us at the service in Gingins on 22 June to say goodbye.

I am pleased to say that we have already recruited a new administrator, Liz Le Feuvre.  Liz has a strong administrative background and will be joining us at the Gift Day Service in Crassier on 15 June and is very much looking forward to meeting you that day. She can also be reached at liz.le.feuvre@lacotechurch.ch
