All things come from you and of your own do we give you
1 Chronicles 29.14
Dear La Côte Church friends and family,
As we head towards Gift Day and our Thanksgiving service at Crassier at 16.00 on 15 June, we are thinking with gratitude of the many people and groups involved in the life of our church.
Our Church Council are pleased to be able to present short profiles of members of our congregation over the coming days, which we hope you will enjoy and find inspiring. Thank you to all who have contributed!

1. Please give your name & role Liz Martinez - Safeguarding officer at la Côte Church
2. How long have you been attending La Côte? About nine years
3. How long have you been in this role? Since 2018
4. What does this role involve? When I first started in the role I was the "third safeguarding officer" and was involved in discussions regarding safeguarding, giving my opinion on reports and correspondence etc. For the past couple of years I have been responsible for the administrative side. This involves finding out which level of safeguarding clearance people need for their role (do they need a police check, what training do they need to do?) Then contacting them, following up and sending them documentation.
I also discuss any safeguarding issues that come up with the other safeguarding officer, Cate Bichara, draft correspondence, and give talks in church so people don't forget safeguarding and realize its importance. The safeguarding officers have regular meetings and calls and we come to council to give an update and also to be aware of what is going on in the church and may need our intervention. We have the support of the diocesan safeguarding team so I correspond with them and also attend meetings with safeguarding officers from other churches.
5. How much time does this role take each week/ month? At least 2 hours a week.
6. What do you find fulfilling about this role? I really believe in the importance of Safeguarding. I get comments such as "don't you think all this safeguarding is a bit too much" and "they do all this safeguarding and terrible things still go on". I know the system isn't perfect but it's the best we've got and I feel very strongly that people should adhere to it. I have to say I'm not a big fan of admin.. but someone has to do it and that's me so I just get on with it!
7. Finally, could you share a resource that you find encouraging or helpful in your Christian life: I already gave one in another questionnaire so I'll give another one Celtic Daily Prayer Book 1: The Journey Begins - Northumbria Community Shop The book has wonderful meditative prayers and reflections for different parts of the day which just take a few minutes. The interactive version is particularly good as you can easily choose prayers for a date and time of day.
We would like to express our deep gratitude to so many of you who contribute to the mission of our church with your generous gifts of time, talents, and financial support. This gift day forms a vital part of our finances. If you can contribute with an extra gift, here are the details of the church bank account:

If you would like to discuss regular giving, please contact Mark Warren.
Thank you very much for your kind contributions.
Finally, please take a moment to reflect on how fortunate we are to have all the positive things that our church life provides and to offer a prayer of thanksgiving.
From Jessica Chapman (La Côte Church Council member)
