Dear La Côte Church friends and family,

As we head towards Gift Day and our Thanksgiving service at Crassier at 16.00 on 15 June, we are thinking with gratitude of the many people and groups involved in the life of our church.

Our Church Council are pleased to be able to present short profiles of members of our congregation over the coming days, which we hope you will enjoy and find inspiring. Thank you to all who have contributed!

Cate Bichara - Safeguarding officer at la Côte Church

2. How long have you been attending La Côte?
For about 23 years

3. How long have you been in this role?
Around 10 years (I think)

4. What does this role involve?
Discussions on safeguarding, giving input to matters arising, giving talks in church, responding to queries, we once organised a group training session, regular meetings with the other safeguarding officers (online or in person), giving updates to council and proposing actions and topics to council regarding safeguarding,

5. How much time does this role take each week/ month?
Around 4-5 hours/month

6. What do you find fulfilling about this role?
I firmly believe that safeguarding is essential in any organisation (and link it to my work on organisational culture and also safety). It is a learning journey and it is satisfying to know that we are making people and the whole community safer with what we do.

7. Finally, could you share a resource that you find encouraging or helpful in your Christian life?
Sacred Space - Your daily prayer online I can take 5 minutes out of my day at any time and find these reflections very helpful.
