Dear La Côte Church family and friends,
On Easter Day we celebrated the “Risen and Conqu’ring Son” as we began to piece together the resurrection and explore how we practice the power and hope of resurrection in our daily lives. Hence the photo of the oversized patchwork Easter Egg above with many of your thoughts, hopes and prayers for Easter!
For the seven weeks between Easter and Pentecost, our Sunday readings focus on the Risen Christ appearing to his disciples, helping them, (and us), to fathom the wisdom of the cross as the way to new life. As they do so, they fall down, get up, start to rediscover their dreams, and walk on.
We ache and pray for God’s wisdom to guide us, both individually and as a global society amid the “New World Cacophony” which Mike French eloquently describes in a recent poem. Join us on Sunday as he helps us to glimpse more Easter promise and hope.
As we begin sowing seeds in this gorgeous Spring sunshine, here’s an extract of the poem imagining wisdom sown in quiet places, speaking in whispers…
New World Cacophony
I’d like to think that Wisdom still walks Somewhere, Playfully, Where the light bends, Where the edges are soft; That in her eyes, A distant star flickers, Too wild to be tamed, Leading the way To some little dawn Of Hope.
More fool me perhaps - A fool on the hill with innocent dreams - Believing that good will win, That we shall overcome, While - all around the World - Scorn shouts down the hopeful, Dismantles trust, And arm-wrestles its wearying way with The bluster of the bullies, The survival of the richest, Juggling brute power, Amusing themselves, Turning Truth into their Plaything.
The Wisdom I once loved would speak in whispers in the still of the night, of roads untaken, of rivers not yet charted, and of a tomorrow that trembled on the edge of today. The dream she carried was a seed sown in quiet places.
