Living Labs Spotlight: Schönberg

What is happening in the Schönberg neighbourhood in Fribourg?

The Living Lab Fribourg has entered its second phase, which is focused on co-designing. In the Schönberg neighbourhood, the team of WP5 has been working closely with local residents and stakeholders. Their goal is to test temporary urban cooling installations. Examples include urban shading devices, water elements and nature-based solutions - or climatic pavillions such as the Demo-mi2.

Webinars

Missed the first webinar in our series "Living and working in the energy transition"? We've got your back!

In this episode, Tristan Loloum and Sascha Nick discuss the role of sufficiency in the energy transition.

"Living and working in the energy transition" links SWICE and Lantern researchers to discuss their latest findings and big ideas on topics shared by both consortia.

Last week, our colleagues David Lindelöf and Cédric Terrier introduced us to the QBuildings database.

This database should be of interest to any SWICE researcher who would like to benefit from the rich geospatial data curated by the QBuildings team.

This webinar is only available to SWICE researchers, through monday.com.

REHO: A decision support tool for renewable energy communities
Dorsan Lepour, Joseph Lousteau, Cédric Terrier and François Maréchal

The Renewable Energy Hub Optimizer (REHO) is going open source! This decision support tool, developed by WP7, is used to model the energy system of neighbourhoods and Living Labs interventions. REHO is deployed as an open-source and collaborative Python library, available as a PyPI package and supported by comprehensive documentation.

Upcoming workshops

Workshop with labelling organisations | 17.03.25

WP6 is hosting a workshop with the labelling organisations NNBS, MINERGIE and SGNI. This workshop, coordinated by Intep, aims to share results and lessons learned from the research of WP6, as well as to discuss mobility, new work and energy - topics that may be integrated in further developments of the label criteria.

Training workshop on Living Labs stakeholder interaction | 16.04.25

WP8 is hosting a "Deep dive session on co-creation and panel management". The focus will be on Living Labs stakeholder interaction, as well as on harmonizing methods between SWICE and Lantern researchers. The workshop is set to take place at the Empa NEST and will be run by ENoLL. SWICE and Lantern Living Lab managers are strongly encouraged to attend.
