Dear La Côte Church friends and family,
As Christ followers, we persist in praying for God’s grace and redemption to disrupt the hopeless cycle of bitter revenge and violence. While we pray for God’s shalom out there and beyond us – we take time to sit with God and acknowledge our own need for God’s grace within.
This week we commemorate St Teresa of Avila of Spain, (1515-82), Doctor of the Church and Carmelite nun, described as “her own woman” in the man’s world of her day, a contemplative and an active reformer.
Here is a prayer attributed to St Teresa, which digs into our inner thoughts with searing honesty and wit… something in it for all of us I think.
Growing Older Lord, You know better than I myself that I am growing older and will someday be old. Keep me from the fatal habit of thinking I must say something on every subject and on every occasion.
Release me from craving to straighten out everybody’s affairs. Make me thoughtful but not moody; helpful but not bossy.
With my vast store of wisdom, it seems a pity not to use it all; but You know, Lord, that I want a few friends at the end. Keep my mind free from the recital of endless details; give me wings to get to the point.
Seal my lips on my aches and pains; they are increasing, and love of rehearsing them is becoming sweeter as the years go by.
I dare not ask for improved memory, but for a growing humility and a lessening cock-sureness when my memory seems to clash with the memories of others. Teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally I may be mistaken.
Keep me reasonably sweet, for a sour old person is one of the crowning works of the devil. Give me the ability to see good things in unexpected places and talents in unexpected people; and give, O Lord, the grace to tell them so. Amen.

Community building and Fundraising
Saturday 26 October: La Côte Church Auction of Time, Talents and Things

Following the huge success of the last La Côte Auction 2022, we are holding another one! This was a key fundraising event for our La Côte Church, which raised important funds to keep our community going. However it was also a very important community event, where we came together to share a wonderful evening of fun. As many of our auction items were also sharing meals, walks, line dancing classes (to name just a few), this theme of sharing community spilled over into the following months. It is in this spirit, that we would like this years’ auction event to continue. Please do think carefully about what you may be able to contribute. Click here for ideas of what to donate. Please do make this a priority - we need input from you all. We look forward to sharing a truly fun filled evening, with hot food included, BYO bottle, a bidding BONANZA and great memories to take away with you!
PLEASE register with Liz Bramley, as this will help us with numbers for catering.
We will issue the catalogue of offers available about a week before the event, so you can have a good browse ahead of time. This will also explain all about how the auction will work.
Please email Diantha Terry with any offers.
