Resounding Success of the “My Future, My Ideas” Competition!

The Eduki Foundation has just concluded a busy semester and year. The 2023/2024 competition broke all previous records, with 15 cantons represented, over 1,800 participants and almost 130 projects submitted. The awards ceremony held on May 15th 2024 at the Palais des Nations brought the 9th edition of the competition to a fitting close with 600 students and teachers gathered at the United Nations in Geneva, enjoying musical performances, inspiring speeches and plenty of audience interaction. The creativity and originality shown by the students was showcased in a beautifully curated exhibition of their art work which was on display for a week and visited by numerous UN officials and visitors. More Cantons Discover International Geneva Thanks to Eduki in 2023!

As the 2023 annual report shows, the Eduki Foundation enabled an even greater number of young people from all over Switzerland to discover the ecosystem of International Geneva through its many organizations. The Eduki team coordinated meetings and visits to 34 international organizations and NGO’s and extended its offer to 20 cantons. It also expanded its teaching resources by launching five thematic files on International Geneva, as well as activity sheets for use in the classroom. This has enabled a large number of pupils to familiarize themselves with themes such as human rights, humanitarian aid, peace and war, the UN system and many others. The Young Reporters at the UN program tackled contemporary issues in three sessions with 207 participants. To find out more about all the activities and statistics for 2023, you can read our 2023 annual report.

The golden box, messages from children about their rights

As a symbolic act to commemorate the 100 years of the Geneva Declaration for the Rights of the Child, Eduki organized a collection of handwritten messages from students from various cantons in Switzerland. These messages were collected in a symbolic box and presented by a group of primary school children attending the award ceremony to Geneva’s Mayor, Ms. Christina Kitsos.

The Eduki box will be carried and presented in various events until November 20th, International Children's Rights Day. Above, a photo of Francine de Planta, President of the Eduki Foundation, with the symbolic Eduki box.
