WEEKLY BULLETIN

29 October 2026

Dear La Côte Church friends and family,

We are now in the season of the church year when we remember people. We remember the great saints of old, people who did extraordinary things in Biblical times, such as the apostles like St Paul, and saints down the ages such as Francis of Assisi and Teresa of Avila, or Oscar Romero in recent times. We call this the kingdom season because these saints point us towards God’s kingdom as it unfolds before us down the ages.

But this is the season when we also remember beloved ones who have in their own way pointed us to God’s kingdom. We hold before each other and before God all who have gone before us. Our lives have been shaped by the great Christian saints. But our lives have also been shaped by the memory of the ordinary people we have known: family, friends, colleagues ...

It is natural to remember our loved ones, and the All Souls’ Service provides an opportunity to remember in the presence of God, to take some relective time to think, with thankfulness, about those whom we ‘love but see no longer.’

And we hold onto the hope in the gospel of a new life in God for those who choose to walk with him in this one.  For Christians, death, whilst a painful stage of life, is not the final stage.  We look forward to the time when “God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them.  They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.  He will wipe every tear from their eyes.  There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away”  (Rev. 21:3-4).

We hold firmly to this promise.

Betty Talbot

Dear La Côte Church friends and family,

Please forgive a short general message to express my deepest thanks for your many expressions of love and gratitude. Thank you to all who gathered to worship last Sunday. As one member of the congregation said – “Carolyn should leave more often!” The church was indeed full and there was a joyful air of thanksgiving for the shared adventure through many seasons. Huge thanks to all who contributed to the worship, assisted the children’s activities, provided delicious cakes, bubbles and décor, and who brought precious folk who do not have transport.

I was very touched by your spoken words during the service, as well as the beautiful and moving book of memories. Each page is a treasure of photos and messages which recall so many blessings. They have moved us to laughter and tears and much thankfulness. I will keep this precious book close by in the months ahead, along with your thoughtful messages, cards and personal gifts. They will buoy me up and help me abide in Christ’s love. They will also enrich my prayers for you on your ongoing journey together.

With very much love, Carolyn
