(Alexandra Barfoot, 2022) | | | Dear La Côte family and friends, There are certain moments in life when an invitation means more than simply being invited to an event. For example, a wedding invitation is not just a request to attend a ceremony. It is an invitation to share in someone’s joy, to be part of a significant moment in their life, and to celebrate with them. Jesus says in this Sunday’s parable from Matthew, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son.” Jesus speaks about an invitation of infinitely greater significance. He speaks about God’s invitation into his kingdom. The remarkable thing about this invitation is that it is not something we have earned. This invitation is offered freely. The kingdom is described as a great wedding banquet. It is a celebration prepared by God, and people are invited simply because God delights to have them come. May we gladly RSVP.
