Dear La Côte family and friends,
The invitation of Jesus in this Sunday’s gospel passage is one of the most tender and reassuring in the Bible: "Come to me, all you who labour and are burdened, and I will give you rest." These words are spoken to every heart that is weary – a heart carrying the weight of family responsibilities, or struggles at work, illness, grief, disappointment, or the quiet daily burdens that no one else sees.
Jesus does not promise a life without difficulties but he does promise that we will never have to face them alone. He invites us to come to him just as we are, without pretending to be strong or to have everything under control. He welcomes us with compassion. His heart is "gentle and humble," not harsh or condemning. He meets us with mercy and offers us the strength we need for each new day.
Jesus is not placing another burden on our shoulders when he asks us to take his yoke upon ourselves. Instead, he invites us to walk with him and let him share the load, and to learn from him, his way of humility, trust, and love. The burdens of life become lighter when they are carried in communion with Christ because his grace sustains us even when our own strength fails.
Deep rest comes in knowing that we belong to the Lord, that we are loved without measure, and that he is always walking beside us. When we entrust our burdens to him in prayer and place our lives in his hands, our hearts begin to find the peace that the world cannot give.
As I was composing this reflection, I found myself humming a modern worship song, I love. Here is the link to it.
