Dear La Côte family and friends This short season of Ascension picks up on the comings and goings of Jesus and his disciples. Jesus leads his followers out into the Bethany vicinity, where they watch his mystical departure, lifted up in a cloud and out of their sight. And much better not to try and paint his feet hanging down out of the cloud to the bewilderment of his friends – then and now!! What matters is to receive, with those first disciples, Jesus’ loving reassurance in their time of loss, change and uncertainty. The writer of Luke describes how Jesus opened their mind to the Scriptures, to the story of God’s saving love in Creation, through God’s people, through Jesus and through the promise of the Spirit. As he prepares to leave them, Jesus blesses them. Scriptures, promise, blessing to help the disciples navigate a time of letting go and prayerful waiting on God. I encourage you to download the Novena booklet written by Sarah Mullaly, an uplifting and accessible guide to prayer during these nine days between Ascension and Pentecost. In the leaving In the leaving, in the letting go, let there be this to hold onto at the last: the enduring of love, the persisting of hope, the remembering of joy, the offering of gratitude, the receiving of grace, the blessing of peace. Jan Richardson, Circle of Grace
