Welcome to EPOS News

Hello and welcome to EPOS News, our monthly newsletter packed with the latest events, courses and insights from the European Paediatric Orthopaedic Society.

News

Dear EPOS community, dear colleagues and friends,

I am honoured and delighted to step into my role as the 33rd President of EPOS. EPOS is not only a leader in paediatric musculoskeletal education and care; it is a community driven by a shared passion for learning, strengthened by science, and united in our commitment to continually improve paediatric orthopaedic care across Europe and beyond.

EPOS has long been a place to connect with colleagues from across Europe and beyond, and to share education and innovation by and for paediatric orthopaedic surgeons and trainees. With the current presidential line and Executive Committee, supported by our own Central Office, I am fortunate to serve alongside an excellent team for 2026–2027.

EPOS reflects the cultural diversity of Europe and beyond, making it a unique forum for exchanging knowledge and recognising how cultural perspectives shape our approaches to paediatric orthopaedic conditions, differences that can play an important role in management. One of our goals for the year ahead is to work further on an EPOS Core Curriculum that respects and reflects these variations.

A look behind the scenes of the JCO

In the latest episode of the EPOS Podcast, Children's Orthopaedic Consultant Darius Rad has invited the Journal of Children's Orthopaedics (JCO) Chief Editors Prof. Shlomo Weintraub and Prof. Fritz Hefti, as well as the journal's Liaison Councillor Dr. Marta Salom, to give you a rare look behind the scenes of the JCO – from how it got started, all the way to the impact it has today.

They discuss, among other things, the use of AI in publishing, APC waivers and support for developing countries.

They also dig into two papers from the latest JCO issue: a systematic review revealing that 1 in 7 children who experience orthopaedic trauma go on to develop PTSD, and a 10-year follow-up study on how femoral leg lengthening affects long-term muscle strength.

You can listen to the podcast on Apple, Spotify, Listen Notes, or wherever you listen to your favourite podcasts.
