Dear La Côte family and friends,
Mothering Sunday invites us to pause in the middle of Lent and offers us an opportunity to reflect on the deep and nurturing love that surrounds our lives. It is a day when we give thanks for mothers and for all who have shown us care, patience, and compassion. In their kindness, guidance, and quiet sacrifices, we often catch a glimpse of a love that reflects something greater than ourselves.
The love of a mother is often used as a powerful image for God’s love. It is tender and attentive, patient and forgiving, seeking the well-being of the one who is loved. Just as a mother comforts and protects her child, so God’s love surrounds us with care and faithfulness. Even when we stumble or feel lost, God’s love remains constant, drawing us back with gentleness and mercy.
Throughout life we are shaped by those who nurture us. Their encouragement strengthens us, their wisdom guides us, and their compassion teaches us how to care for others. These acts of love remind us that God’s presence is often revealed through the people who walk beside us.
Mothering Sunday can also hold many different emotions. Some celebrate with joy and gratitude, while others remember mothers who are no longer with them, or feel the absence of the relationships they hoped for. Yet in every circumstance, the message of God’s love remains the same: a love that does not forget us, a love that holds us in every season of life.
On this day we are invited not only to give thanks for those who have nurtured us, but also to reflect on the way God’s love continues to sustain us. And as we receive that love, we are called to share it with others in offering kindness, patience, and compassion so that the care we have known may continue to grow in the world.
